Archbishop Robin Eames

Born in 1937 Lord Eames was educated in Belfast at the Methodist College and studied law at Queen's University. He was ordained in St Clement's Belfast in 1963 and as priest in Dromore Catahedral in 1964. He was curate of Bangor from 1963 to 1966, rector of Gilnahirk from 1966 to 1974 and rector of Dundela from 1974 to 1980. Lord Eames was elected Bishop of Down and Dromore in April 1980. In 1986 he was elected Archbishop of Armagh and Metropolitan and retired in December 20006. he received a Life Peerage in 1995.

His leadership of the Church of Ireland and the manner in which he has led serious discussion in the wider Anglican Communion, has earned Lord Eames enormous respect and well deserved affection.
