We are pleased to announce Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick QPM, of The Metropolitan Police Service will give the 2012 Annual Lecture on Monday 28 May.

Cressida Dick is Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Crime, the first female officer in Metropolitan Police Service history to be permanently appointed at this level. Since joining the service in 1983, she has acquired significant experience in a broad range of policing matters whether as Area Commander in charge of policing the city of Oxford (1995) or as Commander with the Metropolitan Police in 2001 responsible for family liaison and community reassurance in the aftermath of 9/11. As Head of the Diversity Directorate at New Scotland Yard (2002) she was responsible for the implementation of recommendations from the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report and developing the Met's wider diversity policies.

In February 2007 she was promoted to Deputy Assistant Commissioner and moved to Specialist Operations in charge of protective security in London, which includes the protection of individuals, such as Ministers, VIPs and the Royal Family. She was the Specialist Operations lead in the Met's preparation for the Olympics and became Assistant Commissioner in 2009.
