In 2007 David decided to further his historical performances studies at Schola Cantorum
Basiliensis, Switzerland, where he worked with Andreas Scholl and Gerd Turk, although
initial study started whilst still at school, where David was a choral scholar at
Salisbury Cathedral. In 1998 he moved to London to take up a scholarship to study
at the Royal Academy of Music. Whilst there, he was given many opportunities to
explore the concert repertoire with Choral Societies across the country. Highlights
included Bach B Minor Mass in the London Handel Festival, directed by Lawrence
Cummings and Handel's Theodora in the Spitalfields Festival, under the direction of
Nicholas McGeegan. In his last year at the Academy, he was awarded the McAslan
bursary to study on the opera course. There, he performed the role of Ottone in
Monteverdi's L’Incoronazione di Poppea.
Since leaving the Academy, David has worked for English National
Opera covering the countertenor role in Purcell's King Arthur, Narciso in Handel's
Agrippina, and the Voice of Appollo in Britten's Death in Venice. For Glyndebourne
Festival/Touring Opera he has understudied Nireno in Gulio Cesare, Didymus in Theodora
Nutrice in Poppea. He has recently sung on the concert platform with Monteverdi Choir and
English Baroque soloists as a soloist in St John Passion performing in Spain, Hungary, Germany and the Concertgebougw in Amsterdam.
He is currently working on a production of Monteverdi L’Orfeo at Theater Basel
with Andrea Marcon and Jan Bosse and looks forward to singing the role of
Trasemede in Handel's Admeto at the International Goettingen Handel Festival in May 2008.
Much of David’s time is now taken up as Artistic Director of La Nuova Musica.
