
In July 2010 the House hosted a themed Consultation under the title Exploring Pastoral and Practical Theology. The Consultation was designed and led by the Revd Canon Dr James Woodward, the Canon Steward of the College of St George.
Pastoral and practical theology has emerged as a distinctive discipline over the last thirty years with its own body of knowledge and processes. Theological education in a number of contexts has developed with ever increasing numbers of people engaged in learning. Ministry is being shaped by a number of factors and demands. While organised religion finds itself in some places in a state of anxiety and decline there is an increased interest in spirituality, values and ethics. It is against some of these shaping influences that this Consultation will offer participants an opportunity to reflect upon the place of theology in their work and discipleship.
